Functional Fascia Protocols
Functional Fascia Protocols
This is the examination protocol I use for all my new patients. I began developing it because I was so bored of just looking at one area of the body and not taking time to look at everything. In clinical practice it is very easy to get caught up in the conveyor belt of seeing patients back to back without enough thought or attention.
We are taught to examine the body in separate areas in order to break things down and learn which, is fine to start with however, it can become a habit out in practice. My post graduate studies in biomechanics and anatomy over the last 15 years has taught me, this is a grave error. For example, a dysfunctional ankle has a large impact on a lower back and, a shoulder has a huge correlation with hip function!
This protocol enables me to get a real feel for how a body is functioning and, helps me focus on the key areas. Many people have several issues at the same time and I am always interested in trying to find the source or primary issue. This is of course, is not always possible however, this protocol keeps me focused and forces me to keep thinking outside the box.
After seeing a patient several times I am able to shorten this significantly but, I do often go back to the full protocol to assess progress. This also helps the patient see how far they have come and enhances their cognitive reassurance.
I hope you find it useful.
